International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)

COURSE INFORMATION

International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) is a global organization dedicated to preventing death and disability from trauma through education and emergency trauma care.  ITLS is accepted internationally as the standard training course for prehospital trauma care, and is not only taught as a continuing education course, but is also used as a textbook in many Doctor, Paramedic, EMT, and first responder training programs.  These comprehensive courses are designed for providers who are first on the scene to evaluate and stabilize the trauma patient.  The courses provide complete training in the skills needed for rapid assessment, resuscitation, stabilization and transportation of trauma patients.  The ITLS course provides the core of knowledge and skills appropriate for all levels of EMS personnel and builds on this knowledge, emphasizing evaluation steps, and sequencing as well as techniques for resuscitating and packaging patients.  ITLS also challenges the student with scenario assessment stations, where learning is put to work in simulated trauma situations  ITLS courses are designed, managed and delivered by course directors, coordinators, and instructors experienced in EMS, prehospital care and the ITLS approach.

ITLS Advanced is appropriate for paramedics, registered nurses, doctors, and other advanced EMS personnel.

ITLS Basic is appropriate for BLS, enrolled nurses and other basic level personnel.

ITLS First Responder is appropriate for experienced first responders such as first aiders with at least a  Level 3 or equivalent.

Course Curriculum Includes:  Patient assessment and management/ Basic and advanced airway management / Needle thoracentesis (Chest decompression) / Fluid resuscitation / Head and spinal trauma / Rapid extrication / Fracture management.
